Ford unveils Mustang 50th anniversary logo

Ford is gearing up for a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mustang in 2014, and revealing their logo to be used on fan merchandise.

The anniversary logo uses the traditional galloping pony in silhouette, placed above the words “50 years.” Ford designer Michael Thompson is credited with creating the anniversary logo.

The logo will either be white on a black background or black on white, Ford says.

Ford says the logo will appear on variety on merchandise from 50 companies. Products include die cast models, videogames, watches and T-shirts.

The original Mustang, dubbed a 1964 1/2 model by Ford (but with vehicle identification numbers coded for the 1965 model year), debuted in April 1964 at the New York World’s Fair.

Wow, how much more simple can this logo get. I can create a more unique looking logo with Microsoft Paint. What a way to celebrate 50 years with this sad logo.

Try again Ford, you failed.

The details from the original Mustang logo is removed in favor of a silhouette design, which I'm still getting used to.

I don't think there is anything wrong with simplicity in logos, Nike is a good example of that.

As long as they don't change the Cobra logo, I'll be happy. I love that design.

I couldn't agree more about the cobra. But I'm also a bit disappointed by the new Mustang logo. Those lines of the older design gave it a much better look than the blandness that it has now become.

I'm pretty sure the new Mustang will continue to use the same badges from the older and current Mustang models. I think the new logo is for advertising and merchandise.

Dodge was a good example of a brand that changed their logo a few times and even the current one looks just as good as the first. Ford could learn a thing or two from the Mopar guys.
